Los comentarios que he oído sobre un aspecto de esta pintura parecen tener sentido, en cuanto a una referencia política en los colores de los pañuelos de cada gaucho, alusivos a los partidos políticos uruguayos, y a que uno blandía el cuchillo en la mano derecha, y el otro en la izquierda.
Comments that I have heard about this painting seem to make sense, as to there being a political allusion when the gauchos wear necherchiefs with the colours of the two uruguayan political parties, and one holds the knife in his right hand, and the other in the left.
